Availability of comparison and Follow-up of Urine Protein in Renal Disease

Abstract
Background :
proteinuria is an important sign of renal disease. It is very useful to estimate the patterns of proteinura in differential diagnosis of renal disease.
Methods:
We evaluated the medical records of 142 cases(164 tests ) which had been or dered to test urinary protein in SDS-PAGE method, from May to September, 1993. We also compared the results of SDS-PAGE method with other clinical parameters. We
estimated
the difference in proteinuria patterns among several primary renal diseases and the availibility of follow-up with SDS-PAGE method.
Results:
In primary renal disease, 65% of cases show glomerulotubular pattern-minimal change nephrotic syndrome and membranous glomerulonephritis over than 80%, other disease 40-60%. In nephrotic syndrome, the cases which showed glomerulotubular pattern
were
more than other cases and the cases of glomerulotubular pattern showed highter BUN and creatinine value than cases of other patterns. The comparison of SDS-PAGE test with cellulose acetate electrophoresis showed that SDS-PAGE method is more
useful
than
cellulose acetate electrophoresis in differential diagnosis of renal disease. In follow-up cases SDS-PAGE method showed good correlation with urine protein concentration.
Conclusions:
in this syudy we reached the conclusion that the test of urinary protein with SDS-PAGE methods in an excellent tool to estimate renal disease status.
